"Did you sign the resolution?" I asked.

"I signed a conditional power of attorney," Thorne confessed, his voice shaking. "Donald swore you were in an ICU. He brought the scanner to my front porch twenty minutes ago. But it was an escrow pledge, Lauren, not a bill of sale! He said it protected the firm from a liquidity freeze."

"He swapped the annex," I said. "Calder’s manifest shows an irrevocable transfer to Vane Aviation S. A. What happened to our operating accounts?"

Rapid keystrokes echoed through the phone as Thorne accessed the treasury portal. "Hold on... oh God. Lauren, he initiated a wire transfer at ten-eighteen. Forty-two million dollars from our capital reserve account at First National to Credit Vaudois in Geneva. The settlement condition is tied to the transponder handshake when N488SL clears Gander airspace."

The architecture of Donald’s coup was laid bare. He wasn’t just sidelining me; he was stripping forty-two million dollars in liquid capital alongside our flagship aircraft, leaving Sovereign Freight insolvent by dawn. With the forged medical certificate and the fabricated resolution, he had positioned himself to claim in court that he had acted to rescue the firm, leaving me to face bank foreclosures while he sat safely behind Swiss corporate secrecy laws.

"Revoke the power of attorney on the corporate registry portal right now," I ordered.

"I can't," Thorne said, his voice cracking. "He locked my profile with your stolen master hardware token six minutes ago. My legal portal is read-only. I can’t issue a corporate revocation through the state filing system until business hours tomorrow."

"Then we go through the air," I said.

"Lauren, wait," Thorne pleaded. "If you call the FAA Regional Operations Center and flag the tail as an unauthorized flight, they will classify this as an internal governance compromise. Under our Part 121 certificate, the regional administrator will immediately ground our entire fleet. Sovereign has forty-eight freighters carrying time-sensitive pharmaceutical cargo across three hubs tonight. An emergency fleet stop will trigger eighty million dollars in contractual default penalties by sunrise. It will destroy the company."

Donald had calculated that reporting him would cause institutional damage so catastrophic that I would be forced to wait for morning—by which time he and the money would be beyond American jurisdiction.

Across the tarmac, the FedEx triple-seven turned onto the active runway, its landing lights searing through the low clouds. Behind it, the sleek white silhouette of my Gulfstream rolled to the taxiway threshold, holding short at the yellow double-lines of Runway Two-Six Right. Four minutes remained before their wheels left the pavement.

"I'm not letting him steal my life to protect a balance sheet, Ray. Get into your car, drive to the federal courthouse downtown, and wake Magistrate Judge Evans. Tell him Donald Gable forged an emergency power of attorney and is fleeing the country with corporate assets. I will handle the runway."

I severed the call before Thorne could object.

Reaching into my bag, I pulled out my sovereign fleet operational radio—the encrypted handheld VHF transceiver issued to corporate directors. I switched the toggle from company ground ops and twisted the dial to 119. 3, the frequency for Atlanta Ground.

On the speaker, the controller crackled: "Sovereign Four-Eight-Eight, hold short Runway Two-Six Right, traffic departing ahead is heavy MD-eleven."

"Holding short Two-Six Right, Sovereign Four-Eight-Eight," Martin Vance responded, smooth and confident.

I depressed the secondary frequency key, overriding onto the Gulfstream’s dedicated onboard company channel—the hardwired private circuit that routed directly through the pilot headsets and the aft executive cabin intercom.

"Captain Vance," I said into the handset. "This is Lauren Mercer. I am transmitting on company operational channel one from the ramp."

The frequency hissed with dead air for two full seconds before Vance answered, cold and strained. "Ms. Mercer, you are interfering with an active flight deck during sterile cockpit procedure. Cease transmissions immediately."

"Do not interrupt me, Martin," I said, my voice cutting like cold steel. "Your flight plan is built on a forged power of attorney, a fraudulent medical waiver, and a stolen cryptographic token currently in Donald Gable's briefcase in the aft cabin."

Behind Vance, over the open microphone, the cabin curtain rustled sharply, followed by Donald’s muffled, furious voice demanding to know who was on the channel.

"As sole managing member of Mercer Aviation LLC and Chief Executive Officer of Sovereign Freight," I said, "I hereby formally revoke your authorization to operate tail number N488SL. Your pilot credentials for this tail are terminated under Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations, effective right now."
