Chapter IV: The State Marshals Arrive
Before Evelyn could stammer out an apology, the roar of high-speed engines tore through the gated gates of Palm Crest.
Three unmarked black police interceptors and two county sheriff cruisers swerved onto the driveway, completely boxing in Evelyn and the tow truck with flashing blue and red emergency strobes.
Four armed state investigators and Deputy Sheriff Walker leapt from their vehicles, striding across the driveway with arrest warrants in hand.
"Mrs. Evelyn Cross!" Deputy Walker announced firmly. "Step away from the vehicle and put your hands behind your back."
Evelyn backed against the garage door in sheer hysteria: "Officer, wait! This is a simple private parking violation! I have administrative immunity as the HOA president!"
