THE FOUNDER’S MOP
Chapter I: The Lobby Floor and the Wine-Red Blazer
The grand glass atrium of Vance Global Financial Tower gleamed like polished obsidian. High-tech security turnstiles clicked in continuous rhythm as hundreds of corporate professionals in bespoke suits poured through the revolving doors, rushing toward the high-speed elevators.
Standing near the center of the lobby with a blue mop bucket and a weathered wooden handle was an elderly janitor.
His hair was thin, messy, and gray; his faded green work shirt bore faint water stains, and his shoulders were hunched from a lifetime of hard labor. Moving with slow, aching precision, he pushed the cotton mop across the dark marble floor, wiping away the mud tracked in from the morning drizzle.
Walking aggressively through the revolving doors in tailored gray slacks, high heels, and a sharp wine-red blazer was Victoria Sterling, the company’s Senior Vice President of Global Operations. She stopped dead in her tracks on the freshly damp tiles, glaring down with icy disdain.
"Clean it again," Victoria snapped, flicking her manicured hand dismissively at the spotless floor. "That’s what you’re paid for."
The old man paused, leaning his weathered hands against the mop handle, his breathing shallow.
Chapter II: The Line in the Marble
Stepping forward from the line of waiting analysts was Ethan Cole, a twenty-three-year-old junior compliance analyst with an employee lanyard around his neck.
