THE GARAGE TRAP
Chapter I: The Pink Suit and the Open Bay
The suburban afternoon at Whispering Palms was quiet until Marcus stepped out onto his front driveway. He had just finished a workout, wearing work boots, jeans, and a grey crew-neck shirt, expecting to clean out his garage before the weekend.
Instead, he found a white luxury SUV parked dead-center inside his private two-car garage.
Standing right beside the vehicle’s open door, holding a thick white three-ring binder labeled HOA Bylaws & Community Standards, was Evelyn Cross. Dressed in an eye-catching pastel pink pantsuit with a blonde bob and a condescending smirk, Evelyn looked like she owned every square foot of the subdivision.
"Hey!" Marcus called out, his voice sharp as he strode down the walkway. "What the hell are you doing?"
Evelyn turned slowly, clutching her binder to her chest with a dismissive roll of her eyes.
"Your garage was empty," Evelyn said with complete nonchalance, "so I'm using it."
Marcus stopped at the entrance of his driveway, staring at her in disbelief. "You broke into my property to park your car?"
"I didn't break into anything," Evelyn retorted, gesturing to the open bay. "It was open. Under our community aesthetic guidelines, vehicles cannot be parked on street curbs during paving week. As the HOA treasurer, I am utilizing unused neighborhood assets to ensure compliance."
Marcus's jaw clenched. "Move your car."
Evelyn stepped closer, leaning forward with an infuriating, smug smile.
"Make me."
Chapter II: The Remote Click
Marcus didn't yell. He didn't raise his hands or step into her personal space.
Instead, he reached calmly into his right pocket, pulled out the sleek black remote control for his heavy-duty motorized garage door, and pressed the center button.
Beep.
The overhead industrial motor engaged with a sharp hum. The white paneled garage door began its rapid descent along the steel tracks.
Evelyn’s smug grin vanished instantly. Her eyes went wide with pure, unadulterated shock as she realized what was happening.
"Wait! What are you doing?!" Evelyn shrieked, backing toward her trapped SUV.
The heavy door slammed down against the concrete foundation with a thunderous thud, and the automatic deadbolt engaged with a heavy metallic clack.
Standing on the driveway outside, Marcus looked down at the remote, clipped it back onto his belt, and spoke through the door:
"You're not leaving."
Chapter III: The Trespasser’s Dilemma
Inside the pitch-black garage, illuminated only by the faint security sensor lights, Evelyn pounded on the solid insulated door.
"Open this door immediately! This is unlawful detention! I will have you evicted from this neighborhood!"
Marcus pulled out his phone, dialed the local non-emergency dispatch line, and leaned against the outside wall.
"Officer, I'd like to report a criminal trespass and unauthorized vehicle storage in progress at Lot 22," Marcus spoke calmly into the microphone. "A trespasser entered my private residence without permission and is currently detained inside the garage awaiting law enforcement."
Across the street, several neighbors who had gathered to watch the commotion began recording on their phones, smiling openly as the disgraced HOA treasurer realized her authority ended at the property line.
