“Did anyone see Ms. Mills touch my wife?”

Nearly every hand rose.

The businessman behind Danielle finally spoke. “She slapped her.”

Jordan nodded. “Thank you.”

Karen began crying. “I was under pressure. Boarding was delayed, passengers were complaining, and she would not cooperate.”

Danielle’s voice remained steady. “You were not under attack. You were irritated.”

“I was trying to maintain order.”

“You created the disorder.”

Karen turned toward Jordan. “Please, sir. I have worked for this company for eighteen years.”

“And during those eighteen years,” he asked, “how many passengers did you treat this way when their husbands did not appear at the door?”

The question broke whatever remained of her defense.

Atlas Aerotech’s operations director asked Karen to surrender her crew identification and radio. She hesitated until Jordan repeated the instruction. Her hands shook as she placed both items on the galley counter.

“You are suspended effective immediately,” Jordan said. “You will remain off duty while law enforcement and an independent investigative team review the assault, your report to security, and your previous passenger complaints.”

Karen looked toward Danielle. “I’m sorry.”

Danielle adjusted Ammani’s blanket. “What are you sorry for?”

Karen swallowed. “For striking you.”

“Would you be apologizing if my husband had not entered?”

The attendant said nothing.

“That is the problem,” Danielle replied. “You do not regret what you believed I was. You regret discovering who I am.”

Airport police entered the cabin and separated Karen from the passengers. They photographed Danielle’s injury, collected witness information, and reviewed the first available recordings. The footage clearly showed Karen gripping Danielle’s face and striking her while the baby remained in her arms.

The officer supervising the response approached Danielle. “Would you like to pursue charges?”

“Yes,” she said.

Some passengers appeared surprised. They had expected her to accept the apology because Jordan possessed the power to fire Karen. Danielle understood that employment consequences and legal accountability were different matters.
