“Why?”

Samuel looked toward the departing trains.

“Because I needed a reminder.”

“Of what?”

“That the smallest choices can redirect an entire life.”

Eli sat beside him.

Samuel spoke quietly.

“I used to think a legacy was a building, a company, or a bank account.”

He looked at the bottle.

“I was wrong.”

“What is it, then?”

Samuel smiled.

“It's what continues after you're gone.”

Eli didn't know what to say.

Samuel placed a hand on his shoulder.

“Finish your degree.”

“I will.”

“Build something useful.”

“I will.”

“And when someone needs help, don't ask whether they can repay you.”

Eli nodded.

“I won't.”

Samuel smiled.

“Then the bottle did its job.”

Chapter Six — What Remained

Samuel died several months later.

His foundation continued.

The station remained open.

The workers who had once feared losing their jobs became part of a new training program.

And Eli graduated at the top of his class.

His first major project was a transportation redesign for several underserved communities.

He named the project Clara.

Years later, he returned to Harbor Central.

The station looked different.

Cleaner.

More efficient.

But the giant clock was still there.

Eli stood beneath it with his daughter.

She pointed to a small plaque near the entrance.
