The man looked down at his coffee.

“My mother used to eat alone.”

The woman's expression softened.

“What happened to her?”

“She passed away years ago.”

“I’m sorry.”

He nodded.

“So am I.”

For a few minutes, they said nothing.

The old woman continued eating.

Then she noticed something strange.

The man's hands were shaking slightly.

Not from fear.

From emotion.

She looked at him carefully.

“You knew someone like me before, didn't you?”

The man looked up.

“My mother.”

The old woman smiled sadly.

“She must have been a wonderful woman.”

“She was.”

“What was her name?”

The man hesitated.

“Eleanor.”

The old woman's expression suddenly changed.

She stared at him.

“Eleanor?”

The man nodded.

“Why?”

The old woman slowly put down her spoon.

“Your mother… did she have a son?”

The man's eyes narrowed.

“Yes.”

“What was his name?”

He looked at her for several seconds.

“Daniel.”

The old woman stopped breathing for a moment.

Her eyes filled with tears.

“Daniel?”

The man leaned forward.

“How do you know my name?”

She reached into her handbag with trembling hands.

“I've been looking for you.”

Daniel stared at her.

She pulled out an old photograph.

The picture showed a younger woman standing beside a small boy.

Daniel looked at it.

His face changed instantly.

He recognized the woman.

It was his mother.

But the person standing beside her was someone he had never expected to see again.

An older man.

Daniel looked at the old woman.

“Where did you get this?”

She slowly answered.

“Your mother gave it to me.”

Daniel's expression hardened.

“My mother never mentioned you.”

“She couldn't.”

“Why?”

The old woman took a deep breath.

“Because your mother believed you were dead.”

Daniel froze.

“What?”

The old woman explained that decades earlier, Daniel's family had been involved in a terrible accident. His mother had been told that her young son had died.

But she never accepted it.

She spent years searching for answers.

She eventually discovered that the information given to her had been false.

Someone had deliberately separated Daniel from his family.

Daniel listened in complete silence.

His entire life suddenly felt different.

He had spent years believing he had no family.

Now, sitting across from a stranger in a diner, he was learning that his mother's final years had been filled with questions about him.

“Why didn't you find me earlier?” he asked.

The old woman lowered her eyes.

“I tried.”

Daniel's voice became quieter.

“How long?”

“Thirty years.”

He stared at her.

She continued.

“I finally found you two weeks ago.”

“Then why didn't you contact me?”

“I was afraid.”

“Afraid of what?”

“That you wouldn't believe me.”

Daniel looked at the photograph again.

His hands trembled.

The woman reached across the table.

“I knew your mother.”

Daniel looked at her.

“She was my best friend.”

A tear rolled down the woman's cheek.

“She talked about you every day.”

Daniel looked away.

For the first time in decades, the tough expression on his face disappeared.

He looked like a little boy who had just discovered that someone had been waiting for him all his life.

The diner became completely silent.

Even the waitress stopped working.

Daniel slowly stood up.

He walked around the table and sat beside the old woman.

Neither of them spoke.
