David's voice remained calm.
“That is why you need to stop.”
Karen stepped closer.
“You're choosing her over me?”
“I’m choosing my relationship.”
Karen's eyes filled with tears.
Then anger replaced them.
“You'll regret this.”
David's expression became serious.
“That's enough.”
He walked away.
Karen remained on the sidewalk.
A few seconds later, Elena appeared from across the street.
She had heard everything.
Karen looked at her.
“You.”
Elena didn't respond.
Karen stepped forward.
“You think you won?”
Elena shook her head.
“This isn't a competition.”
Karen laughed.
“For you, maybe.”
Elena looked at her sadly.
“David isn't something you win.”
That sentence stayed in Karen's head.
But instead of making her reconsider, it made her furious.
That afternoon, Karen saw Elena sitting at a salon.
And she had another terrible idea.
CHAPTER FIVE
Hoa Karen Cut Elena's Beautiful Hair Out of Jealousy — But the Woman She Tried to Humiliate Refused to Break
Elena was sitting in a salon chair when Karen entered.
The salon was almost empty.
Karen walked behind Elena.
Elena saw her reflection in the mirror.
“Karen?”
Karen smiled.
“I just want to talk.”
“I don't think that's a good idea.”
Karen stood behind her.
Her eyes fell on Elena's long, beautiful hair.
That hair.
David always complimented it.
Karen's expression changed.
She reached for a pair of scissors sitting on a nearby counter.
Elena immediately stood.
“What are you doing?”
Karen grabbed a loose section of Elena's hair and cut it.
SNIP.
Elena gasped.
Several inches of hair fell to the floor.
Karen stared at it.
For one second, she looked satisfied.
Then Elena turned around.
Her face was furious.
“You cut my hair?”
Karen shrugged.
“Maybe now David will stop staring at you.”
Elena's hands trembled.
But she didn't cry.
She picked up the fallen hair.
Then she looked directly at Karen.
“You really think this will make him love you?”
Karen's confidence disappeared.
“You don't understand.”
“No,” Elena said. “I understand perfectly.”
She walked toward the salon mirror.
Her hair was uneven.
She touched it.
Then she smiled.
“I can fix my hair.”
She looked at Karen.
“But you can't fix what you've become.”
Karen's face reddened.
“You think you're so perfect!”
“No.”
Elena's voice remained calm.
“I just don't need to destroy someone else to feel valuable.”
The salon door opened.
David walked in.
He had come to pick Elena up.
He stopped when he saw the scene.
His expression changed immediately.
“Elena?”
She turned.
