THE KEYS TO THE GREEN MUSTANG
Chapter I: The Pink Shirt and the Demand
The afternoon sun glinted off the polished metallic-green paint of a vintage 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback, parked neatly in the open driveway of Lot 12.
Marching aggressively onto the concrete, clutching a stack of folded papers and thrusting them directly against the homeowner's chest, was Brenda Vance, the overbearing president of the Oakridge HOA. Dressed in a pink button-down shirt and white trousers, Brenda snapped with shrill entitlement:
"Hand over the keys!"
Standing tall on his driveway was Marcus, a composed veteran with graying hair and a trimmed beard, wearing a navy crewneck shirt, jeans, and a gray baseball cap. Marcus stepped back, spreading his hands in disbelief.
"What the hell? This car is mine!" Marcus replied, his deep voice carrying across the front lawn.
Sprinting up beside Brenda was her eighteen-year-old son, Hunter, wearing a pink polo shirt and navy chinos. Hunter thrust an aggressive finger right into Marcus’s face.
