I Blocked an Ambulance With My Motorcycle While Everyone Screamed at Me to Move

I'm the biker who deliberately stopped an ambulance carrying a critically ill boy.
For six minutes, everyone there thought I was a monster.
The boy's father screamed in my face.
The paramedics demanded I move.
Drivers leaned on their horns.
And I stood beside my motorcycle refusing to let that ambulance go another hundred feet.
My name is Ray.
I'm sixty-three years old.
I've been riding motorcycles since I was sixteen.
In forty-seven years on the road, I've seen enough accidents to understand one rule better than most:
When an ambulance is coming, you get out of its way.
That morning, I broke that rule.
And I'd make the same decision again.
I was riding east on Route 12 when I heard sirens behind me.
I checked my mirror.
Ambulance.
Lights flashing.
Moving fast.
I immediately pulled onto the shoulder.
The ambulance passed.
For maybe three seconds, everything was normal.
Then I looked ahead.
Route 12 curved sharply around a wooded hillside.
From my position, sitting slightly higher on the shoulder, I could see something the ambulance driver couldn't.
Movement beyond the bend.
Big movement.
I caught a flash of chrome.
Then a trailer.
And my stomach dropped.
A fully loaded logging truck was coming down the opposite side of the curve.
Something was wrong.
The trailer had begun drifting.
The rear end was swinging across the centerline.
I'd driven that road thousands of times.
There was nowhere for the ambulance to escape once it entered the bend.
Trees on one side.
Rock wall on the other.
