Karen screamed.

For one second, Michael thought his ridiculous little lesson had worked.

Then he looked at the bottle.

His stomach dropped.

Wrong container.

Wrong chemical.

“Karen, get out!”

She stared at him.

“What did you do?”

“Get out of the pool. Now!”

Michael immediately called emergency services, gave them the exact product information, and followed their instructions. He admitted that he had intended to use a harmless product to frighten her.

He did not hide his mistake.

Karen was furious.

“You put chemicals in the water while I was swimming!”

Michael could only answer honestly.

“Yes. I made a terrible mistake.”

Police arrived, including Officer Michelle Alvarez. Michael explained everything.

The officer made one point very clear: Karen's trespassing did not justify Michael's reckless prank.

Michael accepted that.

Then the side gate opened.

Thomas Reed, a retired postal worker who lived nearby, rushed into the yard. He saw Karen wrapped in a towel, the strange-looking water, and the bottle.

“What happened?”

Karen pointed at Michael.

“He put chemicals in my pool!”

Thomas stared at her.

“Your pool?”

That question changed the entire story.

Thomas showed Michael his phone.

There was a conversation with Karen.

She had been charging people money to use Michael and Laura's pool.

Twenty dollars for an individual.

More for couples and groups.

Thomas had already paid her several times because he believed she had permission from the homeowners.

Michael was stunned.

Karen wasn't merely trespassing.

She had created a business.

She had been inviting strangers into their backyard whenever the family was away. She had been collecting payments, giving visitors instructions, and arranging access around Michael and Laura's schedule.

Soon, more evidence appeared.

Karen had created an online advertisement using photographs of the Grants' backyard. Their pool, furniture, umbrellas, and even an old photograph from Sophie's birthday had become promotional material.

Then came a fake waiver.

It claimed that Michael and Laura had authorized the program.
