Vance bowed his head, holding out his hands. Resting in his palms was the titanium B-17 key.

“Mr. Chairman,” Vance said, his voice trembling so violently it echoed in the silent courtyard. “I am profoundly, deeply sorry. I did not know. We did not know.”

Elias stopped sweeping.

He leaned his broom against the stone railing. He reached up with a steady hand and pulled the faded tweed cap off his head.

The transformation was subtle but terrifying. He didn’t change his clothes or raise his voice, but the frail, submissive posture of the janitor vanished completely. Elias stood tall, his shoulders squaring, his jaw setting with an ancient, absolute authority. He looked down at the kneeling Headmaster, and in that moment, he truly looked like the billionaire who owned the world.

“You were not meant to know, Arthur,” Elias said, his voice no longer raspy, but deep and resonant. “A man only shows his true character when he believes he is dealing with his inferiors.”

Kevin Baxter pushed himself off the fountain. His face was a mask of utter confusion. “Mr. Vance? What are you doing? Why are you kneeling to the janitor?”

Elias slowly turned his head to look at Kevin. The cold, piercing intelligence in his eyes made Trent and Chase take a sudden, synchronized step backward, instantly abandoning their leader.

“I am Elias Prescott,” he said simply. “My great-grandfather laid every stone of this courtyard.”

Kevin’s mouth opened, but no sound came out. The arrogance drained from his face, replaced by a sudden, sickening realization of what he had done. He had physically assaulted the owner of the school.

Elias reached down and picked up the titanium key from Vance’s trembling hands. He looked at me, giving a small, respectful nod to acknowledge that I had tried to intervene. Then his eyes locked back onto Kevin.

“Arthur,” Elias said, his tone turning to ice. “Summon your security team. Have Mr. Baxter brought to the Founder’s Archive immediately.”

Vance scrambled to his feet, grabbing his radio. “Dispatch, send four officers to the main courtyard. Escort protocol.”

“Wait, hold on!” Kevin stammered, panic finally bleeding into his voice. He looked around wildly for support, but his friends had backed away into the crowd. “My dad is Senator Baxter! You can’t just—”

“I know exactly who your father is, Kevin,” Elias cut him off, his voice slicing through the air like a blade. “I know how much he donates. I know how many times the administration has looked the other way while you bullied, intimidated, and abused the students and staff of this school.”

Elias stepped closer. Kevin, for the first time in his life, shrunk backward in fear.

“For three years, I have swept these floors and watched,” Elias continued softly. “I watched this institution rot from the inside out, blinded by money and athletic trophies. I watched boys like you believe that power meant cruelty.”

Four campus security guards, large men in tactical uniforms, pushed through the silent crowd of students. They flanked Kevin immediately, grabbing him by the biceps of his letterman jacket.

“Take him down,” Elias ordered.

We marched through the school. The entire student body parted like the red sea as Elias Prescott led the way, his limp entirely gone, replaced by a relentless stride. I walked beside Vance, who looked physically ill. Kevin was practically dragged behind us by the guards, his earlier bravado completely shattered.

We reached the basement of the north wing. A massive, reinforced steel door stood at the end of the hallway, flanked by two more guards.

“Code Red lifted,” Elias said calmly. “Open the doors.”

The guards pulled the heavy steel doors open. We stepped into the Founder’s Archive.
