The Pilot walked several feet away.

The Woman could still hear enough.

“Have you verified passenger identity?”

“No, sir.”

“Have you checked the ownership transition briefing issued yesterday?”

The Pilot stopped moving.

“What briefing?”

“The acquisition memorandum.”

“I haven’t read it.”

“Clearly.”

The Pilot's face lost color.

The director continued.

“The passenger sitting in the forward cabin is the controlling owner of SW Holdings.”

The Pilot said nothing.

“That company completed the acquisition of Ascendia Global Charter fourteen days ago.”

The Wealthy Passenger slowly lowered herself into a seat.

The Operations Director continued.

“And yes, Captain, the aircraft you are currently standing inside is registered to the operating subsidiary now controlled by her company.”

The Pilot turned toward the Woman.

She was reopening her book.

“Operations…”

“Stand by.”

The radio went quiet again.

The Pilot walked back toward her.

His entire manner had changed.

“Ma’am.”

She looked up.

“I believe there’s been a misunderstanding.”

“No.”

The single word stopped him.

He swallowed.

“I wasn’t aware—”

“That is obvious.”

“I was attempting to resolve a passenger dispute.”

“By removing the passenger who had done nothing?”

The Pilot glanced toward the Wealthy Passenger.

“She has flown with us many times.”

“I know.”

That surprised all of them.

The Woman continued.

“Thirty-seven flights in four years.”

The Wealthy Passenger stared.

“You know my account?”

“I own the company.”

The Woman turned back to the Pilot.

“And I reviewed your customer-service history.”

The Pilot's jaw tightened.

“My record is excellent.”

“Your flight record is excellent.”

She emphasized the distinction.

“Your passenger record is not.”

The cabin attendant looked down.

The Woman continued.

“Three complaints in eighteen months describing almost exactly what happened here today.”

“That’s not fair.”

“What isn't?”

“Private clients can be demanding.”

“The demanding client wasn't the person you threatened.”

The Pilot opened his mouth.

Nothing came out.

The Woman stood.
