The older officer looked down.

For several seconds, nobody spoke.

Then the businessman said, "I'd like the incident number, both officers' names, and the appropriate process for requesting body-camera footage."

The younger officer nodded.

"We can provide the incident details and explain the records process."

"Thank you."

The man looked toward the older officer.

"And I'd like a supervisor to attend before this interaction is closed."

The officer hesitated.

Then nodded.

"All right."

The blonde woman stepped forward again.

"This is becoming ridiculous."

The businessman turned.

For the first time, his expression hardened.

"Ma'am, please stay away from me."

She stopped.

He continued.

"You accused me of theft without evidence, you interfered with the police investigation, and you put your hands on me while I was restrained."

Her cheeks flushed.

"I barely touched you."

He nodded.

"That's your description."

Then he looked toward the older neighbor.

"Fortunately, other people witnessed it."

The blonde woman turned.

She noticed the phone.

Her face changed.

"Are you recording me?"

The older neighbor looked directly at her.

"I'm recording what's happening in a public-facing driveway from the street."

The blonde woman stared.

"That's an invasion of privacy."

The older neighbor remained calm.

"You've been shouting loudly enough for the entire neighborhood to hear."

Several onlookers shifted.

The woman opened her mouth.

Then closed it.

The older neighbor continued.

"I've lived here longer than either of you. I have never seen this gentleman cause a problem."

She looked toward the homeowner.

Then toward the blonde woman.

"And I have seen you cause several."

The blonde woman's expression became furious.

"Stay out of this."

The older woman raised her eyebrows.

"That's what I should have said to you when you started the whole thing."

For a moment, nobody spoke.

Then the businessman approached the older neighbor.

Not too close.

Just enough to address her politely.

"Thank you for recording."

She nodded.

"I thought somebody should."

He smiled faintly.

"Would you be willing to preserve the original file and provide it through the appropriate process?"

"Of course."

He nodded.

"And please don't send it to anyone until you've had a chance to speak with the investigators."

The older woman looked surprised.

She had expected him to ask for the video so it could spread online.

Instead, he seemed more interested in preserving evidence.

She studied him.

Then nodded.

"All right."

The businessman smiled.

"Thank you."

He turned toward the officers.

Then asked the younger man one more question.

"What information did dispatch provide about the supposed theft?"

The younger officer checked his tablet.

He hesitated.

Then answered.

"An emergency report from a resident claiming suspected unauthorized vehicle possession and possible trespass."

The businessman looked toward the blonde woman.

"Was there a stolen-vehicle confirmation?"

"No."

"A complaint from the registered owner?"

"No."

"Any indication the property's owner had requested police assistance?"

The younger officer shook his head.

"No."

The businessman took a slow breath.

Then nodded.

"Thank you for being clear."

The older officer looked uncomfortable.

The younger man glanced toward him.

The businessman continued.

"I'd appreciate having all relevant dispatch notes preserved, including the original caller's statements and any information provided by private security."

The younger officer nodded.

"I'll make sure the supervisor knows."

A few minutes later, another patrol car arrived.

A sergeant stepped out.

He was in his early fifties, with a weathered face, short gray hair, and the tired expression of someone accustomed to arriving after other people had already made decisions.

He approached.

Looked toward the Ferrari.

Then the mansion.

Then the Black homeowner.

"Sir, I'm the responding supervisor."

The businessman introduced himself.

The sergeant listened as the officers explained the call.

Then he asked the younger man for the registration results.

The younger officer showed him.

The sergeant looked toward the older officer.

"Why were cuffs applied?"

The officer hesitated.

"Given the nature of the report and the uncertainty about the vehicle—"

The sergeant interrupted.

"What specific safety or flight concern did you identify?"

The officer looked down.

For several seconds, he did not answer.

The sergeant's expression tightened.

He turned toward the businessman.

"I'm going to document the circumstances and refer the restraint decision for review."

The homeowner nodded.

"Thank you."

The sergeant continued.

"We'll also document your complaint about the caller's conduct."

The blonde woman stepped forward.

"This is outrageous."

The sergeant looked toward her.

"Ma'am, I need you to step back."

She stared.

"My family pays more property taxes than half this neighborhood!"

The sergeant nodded.

"That doesn't change the facts I need to establish."

Her expression collapsed again.

For the first time, the police officers were no longer responding to her social position.

They were responding to what the records showed.

And she had never felt more powerless.

The businessman's phone had been vibrating repeatedly throughout the encounter.

He finally looked at it.

Three calls from his general counsel.

Two messages from the acquisition team.

And one message from his mother.

He opened his mother's text first.

Are you eating lunch?

Despite everything, he smiled.

Then he saw a message from the general counsel.

Urgent: Asterion luxury director appears involved in a security incident at your property. Please call before discussing company matters.

He looked toward the woman.

She was standing several feet away, speaking angrily into her phone again.

He took a slow breath.

Then called his attorney.

The lawyer answered immediately.

"Are you all right?"

The businessman smiled faintly.

"Mostly."

"What happened?"

He explained.

The Ferrari.

The false theft accusation.

The handcuffs.

The confirmation of ownership.

The woman's claim about her family controlling Asterion.

And the fact that she apparently used the company's security application to generate or escalate concerns.

The lawyer remained quiet until he finished.

Then asked, "Are the police still there?"

"Yes."

"Have they documented the incident?"

"They're doing that now."

"Do you have witnesses?"

"Several."

"Video?"

"At least one neighbor recorded it."

The lawyer took a breath.

"Good. Preserve everything."

The businessman looked toward his wrists.

"I intend to."

The attorney hesitated.

Then asked, "Did she know the transaction closed?"

"Apparently not."

A pause.

The lawyer sighed.

"Her father was supposed to tell her."

The businessman looked toward the mansion.

"That seems to have gone poorly."

The lawyer did not laugh.
