"You don't look like someone staying here."

The words hung in the air.

A nearby couple turned slightly.

Walter stared at her.

"You still haven't checked my reservation."

Rosa sighed.

"Sir, let's not make this difficult."

"I'm not making anything difficult."

"Then please leave."

Walter's voice remained quiet.

"All I asked was for you to search my name."

Rosa's patience disappeared.

She pointed toward the entrance.

"Security."

Walter looked at her in disbelief.

"You are calling security because I asked you to check a reservation?"

Rosa lowered her voice.

"I am protecting the comfort of our guests."

Walter looked around the lobby.

No one appeared uncomfortable.

Except him.

He looked back at her.

"You don't have the right to disrespect me."

Rosa's expression hardened.

"I have every right to protect this hotel."

She turned toward the security desk.

"Please remove him before this becomes a bigger problem."

A security guard approached.

He was clearly uncomfortable.

He had seen enough to understand that something about the situation was wrong, but Rosa was his manager.

He stopped a few feet away.

"Sir..."

Walter looked at him.

"I have a reservation."

The guard hesitated.

"I understand."

"Then ask her to look it up."

The guard glanced toward Rosa.

She shook her head.

"Just escort him outside."

Walter looked at the guard again.

The man's expression apologized without words.

Walter understood.

This young employee was trapped between following orders and doing what he knew was right.

Walter slowly picked up his small travel bag.

"Fine."

He turned toward the door.

But before leaving, he looked back at Rosa.

"You should be careful about judging people you know nothing about."

Rosa didn't answer.

Walter walked outside.

The glass doors closed behind him.

For several seconds, he stood on the sidewalk beneath the afternoon sun.

He looked at the hotel.

Then at the little brown bag in his hand.

He wasn't angry because they had refused him.

He was hurt because of how easily they had decided he was not worthy of being there.

And what bothered him most was that he knew this was not unusual.

People were often treated according to what they appeared to own.

Walter had seen it happen to others.

He had simply never expected it to happen to him so openly.

He took out his phone.

There was only one person he wanted to call.

His son.

"Marcus."

Across the city, Marcus Brooks was sitting in a conference room surrounded by executives.

He was in the middle of a business meeting when his father's name appeared on his phone.

Marcus normally ignored personal calls during meetings.

But he never ignored his father.

He immediately answered.

"Dad?"

There was a pause.

"Are you alright?"

Walter tried to sound casual.

"They won't let me inside."

Marcus frowned.

"What do you mean?"

"The hotel manager wouldn't check my reservation."

Marcus straightened in his chair.

"Why?"

"She said I didn't look like someone who belonged there."

The room became silent.

Marcus closed the folder in front of him.

"She never checked your reservation?"

"No."

"Did you show her the confirmation?"

"Yes."

"And she still refused?"

"She had security escort me outside."

Marcus stood.

"Where are you now?"

"Outside the hotel."

"Stay there."

"Marcus—"

"I'm coming."

"There's no need to make this bigger than it is."

Marcus was already walking toward the door.

"Dad, someone humiliated you in a hotel owned by our company."

Walter sighed.

"That's not why I'm calling."

"Then why?"

"I just wanted you to know."
