Elias closed his newspaper completely.“What?”
“Security found her phone recording when she left the cabin.”Maya’s brow furrowed. “Recording what?”
“Apparently much of the interaction.”Elias’s eyes narrowed.
Serena lowered her voice. “And according to the gate officer, she had positioned the camera before she touched the cane.”Maya’s face became very still.
Elias stood again. “I’d like to speak with Officer Ortiz.”Serena nodded and stepped aside.
Maya reached for his sleeve before he moved. “Agent Grant.”He stopped.
“If that woman was recording before anything happened, please do not assume the obvious explanation is the correct one.”Elias studied her expression.
“You know something.”Maya gave a slow nod.
“Not yet.”That answer unsettled him more than a confession would have.
Elias entered the jet bridge and found Lena Ortiz holding a clear evidence pouch containing Eleanor’s phone. The screen was locked, but she had already voluntarily shown officers a recording while trying to prove the incident had been misunderstood.“She claimed she was documenting harassment from another passenger,” Lena explained.
“Did the video support that?”“No.”
“What did it show?”Lena looked toward the aircraft door.
“It started eleven minutes before the cane was taken.”Elias frowned.
