THE AUCTION HOUSE AMBUSH
Chapter I: The Tow Truck on the Driveway
The manicured lawns of Meadowbrook Estates were supposed to reflect quiet suburban tranquility, but on a bright Tuesday morning, the peace was shattered by the grinding drone of a heavy-duty hydraulic winch.
Standing in the driveway of Lot 18, arms crossed over her floral blouse with designer sunglasses perched on her blonde bob, was Karen Whitmore—the self-appointed, tyrannical president of the Meadowbrook Homeowners Association. Standing behind her was a commercial tow truck backing its steel boom directly toward an immaculate, metallic-blue 1969 Ford Mustang Fastback.
"Hook it up and tow it away!" Karen commanded, pointing a sharply manicured finger at the vintage muscle car. "It’s been parked on this driveway for over forty-eight hours! It violates community aesthetics, and it violates Section 4 of our parking bylaws!"
The front door of the house flew open. Ryan Mercer sprinted down the front walkway, his hands raised in disbelief and fury.
"Stop! What the hell are you doing?" Ryan shouted, stepping between the tow operator and his bumper. "That’s private property! You have no legal authority to touch my car on my own driveway!"
