I stepped into the room right behind Sam, holding the pink backpack in one hand and the heavy steel tire iron in the other.

Kraven's eyes drifted to the backpack, then to my face. "Who the hell are you?"

I reached into the bag, pulled out the heavy plastic harness and the white shipping label, and slammed them down on Kraven's desk right over his ledgers.

"I'm the guy who unwrapped your cargo at the diner," I said, my voice dripping with cold fury. "CARGO OF BOSS K. Printed right on your private inventory tag, with your salvage lot's routing number on the barcode."

Kraven looked at the tag, then at his two men. The enforcer on the left reached slowly toward his waistband, but Sam instantly adjusted his aim.

"Try it," Sam warned softly. "Please."

The enforcer slowly raised both hands into the air.

"Where is Elena Vasquez?" I demanded, stepping around the desk until I was standing inches from Kraven's face. "Where is she?"

Kraven swallowed hard, his arrogant composure completely shattered. He pointed a trembling finger toward the rear wall of the office, where a heavy reinforced steel door led to an attached storage bay.

"Keys," I snapped.

Kraven reached into his pocket with two fingers, pulled out a brass key ring, and handed it over without a word.

I grabbed the keys, ran to the rear steel door, unlocked the heavy deadbolt, and threw the door open.

Inside the dark, unheated storage trailer sat a young woman bound to a chair with zip ties, her dark hair disheveled, tears pouring down her face.

"Elena?" I called out softly.

She looked up, her eyes filled with sheer terror. "Maya... where is my daughter? Please, what did they do to Maya?"
