"You just implied—"

"I stated facts."

Officer Hayes stepped outside.

"Ms. Vance, we need to discuss the false report."

HOA Karen immediately raised her phone.

"I have lawyers."

Hayes nodded.

"You are free to contact one."

"I'm calling the association attorney."

"That's your choice."

"I know people in the county administration."

"That's also your choice."

HOA Karen's voice became increasingly desperate.

"Do you know who I am?"

Officer Hayes gave her a tired look.

"Yes."

"I am the president of this association."

"I understand."

"I have authority here."

"Over association matters."

HOA Karen looked toward John.

"This man has violated neighborhood rules repeatedly."

John almost smiled.

"Which rules?"

She glared at him.

"The vehicle."

"What about it?"

"Repair work in the driveway."

John nodded.

"Show Officer Hayes the rule."

HOA Karen froze.

John continued.

"You've cited me three times."

"I don't have to show you anything."

"Then don't."

Hayes looked at HOA Karen.

"Ma'am, right now, the issue is not an HOA violation."

HOA Karen's voice dropped.

"What is the issue?"

"The collision."

She looked at Chad.

"He made a mistake."

Hayes nodded.

"That can be dealt with through the proper process."

John stepped closer.

"And the false allegation."

HOA Karen stared at him.

"You really want to do this?"

John's expression remained calm.

"You already did."

The sentence landed harder than shouting would have.

HOA Karen took a step backward.

John continued.

"Knowingly filing a fabricated felony complaint against a law enforcement official is not a neighborhood disagreement."

Her breathing became uneven.

"You can't prove I knew."

John gestured toward the camera.

"I have evidence."

Officer Hayes looked at him.

"Director, we should preserve all of it."

"Agreed."

HOA Karen looked at Chad.

Her son was now visibly shaken.

"Chad."

He didn't answer.

"Tell him."

Chad swallowed.

"Tell him what?"

"Tell him what happened."

He looked at Officer Hayes.

"I was driving too fast."

HOA Karen closed her eyes.

"I lost control."

He continued.

"I hit the mailbox."

Hayes nodded.

"And?"

Chad's voice became quiet.

"I left."

"Why?"

"Because I was scared."

"Of what?"

Chad looked toward John.

"I thought he was going to make me stay."

John replied.

"He asked you to remain at the scene."

Chad nodded.

"I know."

"Did he threaten you?"

"No."

HOA Karen's shoulders dropped.

The confession was simple.

It destroyed everything she had claimed.

Officer Hayes opened his notebook.

"All right."

HOA Karen immediately said, "Wait."

Hayes looked at her.

"I want to correct my statement."

"You may."

"I was emotional."

"Understood."

"I didn't mean for anyone to get hurt."

"Understood."

"I just wanted to protect my son."

John looked at her.

"Then you should have started with the truth."
