It was a battle of wills. There were days Mia stormed out of the gym in a fury, frustrated by the padded gloves and the restrictive rules. But she always came back before the sun rose. Slowly, the lethal edge of the Special Forces combatives was honed into a devastating, legal striking game. She learned how to use her incredible balance to deliver knockout power with boxing gloves. She learned how to slip punches instead of neutralizing limbs.

Derek watched her from afar. He had never spoken to her again after their brief altercation, but the arrogance had been permanently beaten out of him. He saw what everyone in the gym saw: the birth of an absolute phenomenon.

One evening, after the gym had emptied, Reed held the focus mitts for her. The rhythm was hypnotic. Pop-pop. Weave. Hook. Cross. They moved perfectly in sync, a dance of violence and trust.

“He would be proud of you,” Reed said softly, lowering the mitts.

Mia wiped the sweat from her brow. She looked up at the banners hanging from the ceiling. “He thought the world was out to destroy me. He thought I needed to be a weapon to survive it.”

“He was a soldier, Mia. Soldiers only see battlefields,” Reed said, handing her a bottle of water. “But you don't have to carry his war anymore. You can fight for yourself. For the love of the sport. For the challenge.”

Mia looked at her gloved hands. The raw, desperate anger that had fueled her for so long had burned away, replaced by a deep, quiet discipline. She wasn't just Arthur Hayes’ daughter anymore. She wasn't just the ghost of Elias Vance.

“There’s a regional tournament next month,” Mia said, her dark eyes meeting Reed’s. “The Golden Gloves qualifiers.”

Reed smiled. It was the first time he had truly smiled in fifteen years. He recognized the look in her eyes. It wasn't the look of a survivor looking for a threat. It was the look of a champion looking for a crown.

“Then we better fix that right hand,” Reed said. “Get back on the line.”

The arena was loud, a chaotic symphony of shouting coaches, buzzing horns, and roaring crowds. The smell of popcorn mixed with the sharp scent of adrenaline. Mia stood in the tunnel, shifting her weight from foot to foot. She wore the colors of Reed’s gym, her hair braided tightly against her scalp.
