The HOA Ordered His Vintage Car Crushed — Then the Deputies Recognized the Owner

Marcus looked at the deputies.“Because I know what's going to happen next.”Denise stared at him.“What?”Marcus didn't answer.Deputy Collins did.“We're going to preserve the scene.”Denise scoffed.“For what?”“Evidence.”The word seemed to hang in the air.Evidence.The excavator. The work order. The contractor. The photographs. The damaged vehicle. The HOA notices. And most importantly, the fact that someone had ordered the destruction of a valuable private vehicle without the owner's consent.Denise suddenly realized that the conversation had changed. This was no longer an HOA dispute. It was an investigation. She turned toward the excavator.“Shut the contractor down.”The operator looked at her.“I already did.”“No.”“You told me to stop.”“I didn't.”The operator stared at her.“You literally just told me.”Denise looked at Marcus.“This is your fault.”Marcus shook his head.“No.”“You brought this into the neighborhood.”“You brought the excavator.”“You refused to comply.”“You destroyed my property.”“You were warned.”“About a violation.”“Yes.”“Not about demolition.”Denise opened her mouth. No words came. The female deputy stepped closer.“Sheriff, do you have documentation showing the vehicle's value?”Marcus nodded.“Yes.”“How much?”“Four million dollars.”The contractor's face went white.Denise laughed nervously.“That's ridiculous.”Marcus looked at her.“The appraisal is in my house.”“Four million?”“Yes.”“That car isn't worth four million.”Marcus didn't respond.Deputy Collins did.“Actually, it might be.”Denise looked at her.“How would you know?”The deputy looked at the wreckage.“Because my father collected Ferraris.”Denise went silent.Deputy Collins continued.“That model is extremely rare.”Marcus nodded.“275 GTB/4.”The deputy stared at the wreckage.“Good Lord.”The male deputy pulled out his phone.“I'll verify the appraisal.”Marcus said, “It's from Bell & Carter Automotive Valuations.”The deputy typed. His eyes widened.“There's an auction record.”Denise shook her head.“No.”He looked up.
