"That is precisely the failure, Mr. Vance," Arthur interrupted, his tone cutting like diamond. "Courteous service is not a luxury reserved for tailored suits. Integrity is how you treat those you believe have no power to hurt you. You are dismissed as branch manager, effective immediately. Pack your desk."

Michael signaled the two security guards, who stepped up and firmly escorted the shell-shocked Kenneth toward the back offices.

Arthur turned to Clara, who was still standing behind the counter, wide-eyed in astonishment. The old chairman's stern expression softened into a warm, genuine smile as he tapped the worn leather briefcase.

"Young lady," Arthur said gently. "You showed professional vigilance and human decency when your manager chose arrogance. What's your name?"

"Clara, sir," she whispered.

"Well, Clara," Arthur said, sliding his corporate bonds toward her. "Starting today, you're enrolled in our executive branch management track. How about you help me deposit these into our regional trust account?"

Outside, the rain continued to stream down the glass, but inside the lobby, the quiet power of decency had just shifted the balance of an entire boardroom.
