He finally turned to look at the two women. The arrogant, untouchable facade they wore was melting away in real-time, replaced by raw, unadulterated terror as his words sank in.

"This," Alexander pointed a firm finger at the locked glass case, "is high-grade cubic zirconia, expertly synthesized lab sapphires, and standard white gold. It's an excellent, masterful forgery. Probably worth about five thousand dollars to a trained eye. But it is emphatically not the Elysium."

"You're completely insane," Eleanor stammered, taking a step backward, the champagne trembling in her glass. "Security, get him out! Now! Use force!"

But the guards hesitated. They weren't stupid. The unwavering conviction in the ragged man's voice, the sudden, highly specific mention of the piece's late designer, and the sudden fear radiating from their bosses... it made them freeze.

Before Marcus could decide whether to risk his job or risk assault charges, the heavy glass doors of the boutique flew open with a loud crash. Regional Director Sarah Whitforth burst in, sprinting in high heels, her hair disheveled. She was followed closely by four uniformed NYPD officers and two grim-faced detectives in plainclothes.

Sarah looked wildly around the showroom until her wide eyes landed on the man in the faded canvas jacket. She practically ran toward him, nearly tripping over the marble floor.

"Mr. Vance! Sir, I am so deeply sorry, I came as fast as humanly possible."

Eleanor dropped her champagne glass. It shattered violently on the imported marble floor, the sharp sound echoing like a gunshot through the boutique. The vintage champagne pooled around her expensive heels.

"Mr... Vance?" Victoria whispered, her voice barely a squeak, her knees visibly trembling as she looked between Sarah and the man she had just called trash. "Alexander Vance? The CEO?"

"You work for me," Alexander said, his voice ringing with absolute, crushing finality. "And you have been systematically stealing from me."

He turned to the detectives, his demeanor entirely professional once again. "Officers. These women, alongside whoever else is involved in the management of this specific branch, have been swapping our authentic inventory with high-grade replicas and fencing the real multi-million dollar pieces on the black market."

The pieces of the puzzle fell into place with sickening, crystal clarity.

"That's exactly why you treat people like trash," Alexander realized aloud, looking at Eleanor and Victoria with utter, profound disgust. "That's why you act so exclusionary, so violently elitist. It wasn't just standard snobbery. It was a calculated defense mechanism. You rigidly profiled customers. Anyone who looked like a real buyer, an independent appraiser, or someone who might actually want to examine the pieces closely under a loupe, you drove away with your toxicity. You only let the ignorant, ultra-wealthy, status-obsessed clients buy, knowing they'd just lock the pieces in a safe and never get them independently appraised because they were too busy showing them off at galas."

Eleanor was shaking her head rapidly, black mascara tears ruining her perfect makeup. "No, no, sir, please, you have to understand, we were forced into it, the debtsβ€”"

"Save your excuses for the federal judge," Alexander cut her off sharply, turning his back on her.

Chapter 6: True Value

He watched impassively as the police officers moved in, reading the women their Miranda rights, harshly handcuffing the very hands that had so violently thrown his daughter out onto the pavement an hour prior. The security guards, realizing the gravity of what had just occurred and that they had physically assaulted a billionaire CEO on his own property, wisely surrendered themselves quietly to the remaining officers, pleading ignorance to the forgery ring.

For the next two hours, the store was entirely locked down. Yellow crime scene tape was draped across the front doors, and the boutique was crawling with forensic auditors, corporate lawyers, and police.
