The Street Where Engines Sounded Like a Warning

Chapter 1

In the small, unassuming town of Dawson, Ohio, the evenings usually settled with a familiar, comforting quiet. It was the kind of town where the rhythmic creak of porch swings served as the neighborhood metronome. The air always hung heavy with a blend of dry dust, freshly cut grass, and the savory aromas of dinner wafting from open kitchen windows.

But on that particular Tuesday, shortly after five o'clock, the suburban peace was sliced open.

It didn't begin with a siren or a shout, but with a low, guttural vibration that seemed to rise from the asphalt itself. One after another, black motorcycles turned onto Maple Street. They didn't arrive fast, and their engines weren't revving in defiance. Instead, they rolled at a deliberate, almost reverent crawl, as if every single meter of the road held a profound weight.

Curiosity overrode routine. Front doors clicked open. Curtains were pulled back by cautious hands. People stepped out onto their wooden porches, dinner plates temporarily forgotten.

At the front of the long column rode a massive man in a matte black helmet, a dark bandana pulled tight over his nose and mouth. Behind him, dozens of others followed in a staggered, disciplined formation. The procession finally ground to a halt across from an old, white house near the end of the cul-de-sac. Its paint was peeling around the window frames, but a warm, inviting amber light glowed from the porch bulb. A gentle evening breeze stirred a set of copper wind chimes beside the door, their delicate tinkling standing in sharp contrast to the idling iron engines.

No one came out of the white house.

In perfect unison, as if responding to an unspoken command, the bikers who weren't already wearing masks reached into their leather vests. One by one, they pulled up thick cotton bandanas, covering the lower halves of their faces.
