The silence that returned to the lawn felt different this time. It wasn't tense. It felt like a deep, cleansing breath.
Bear turned around. Dex and the other Hounds were already at work. Without a single order being given, they were picking up Jax's belongings from the lawn. They were carefully taking things out of the dumpster, dusting off the picture frames, and carrying the boxes back into the safety of the house.
Bear knelt down in the grass in front of Mia. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the tarnished silver dog tag. He carefully placed the rusted chain over her head, letting the heavy metal rest against her chest.
"Is he really going to jail?" Mia asked, her voice small.
"He's going away for a long time," Bear promised. "He's never going to touch you or your dad's things ever again."
Mia looked past Bear, watching the massive, intimidating bikers carefully carrying her father's memories back into her home. Prophet walked out of the garage, holding Jax's black MC helmet. He walked over and gently placed it on the ground beside Mia, offering her a respectful nod before going back to work.
"Are you going to send me to a group home now?" Mia asked, looking back at Bear, a trace of old fear still lingering in her eyes.
Bear reached out, his massive, calloused hand gently resting on her shoulder.
"Mia," Bear said, his voice thick with emotion. "Your dad built this club. He was my brother. That makes you our blood. You aren't going to a home."
Bear smiled, the harsh lines of his scarred face softening completely.
"You already have one," Bear told her. "And as of today, you’ve got about fifty massive, ugly uncles who are going to make sure nobody ever raises a hand to you again."
Mia stared at him for a long moment. Then, the seven-year-old girl stepped forward and wrapped her small arms tightly around Bear’s thick neck, burying her face in the worn leather of his cut.
Bear closed his eyes and hugged her back, holding her safe. The roar of the highway in the distance faded away, replaced by the sounds of the Iron Hounds restoring the home, preserving the legacy, and finally welcoming Jax's little girl to the family.
