Chapter II: The Manager's Verdict
"That's employee food."
A cold, sharp voice sliced through the tranquil corner of the dining room.
Stepping briskly from the service aisle was Victor Sterling, the general restaurant manager. Dressed in a tailored gray three-piece suit, maroon tie, and a golden name badge, Victor looked down at the dining table with visible disgust.
"You took your allotted staff meal and gave it to a vagrant inside our main dining room," Victor stated, crossing his arms.
Leo turned to his manager, keeping his tone polite yet firm: "He needs it more than I do, Mr. Sterling. He was shivering by the front entrance."
Victor’s eyes narrowed with utter contempt. He glanced at the neighboring tables where wealthy patrons were watching the confrontation.
"This is an upscale dining institution, not a shelter. You violated employee conduct rules and damaged our brand image. You're fired. Leave your apron in the back and get out."
Leo took a slow, steady breath. He looked down at the old man, who paused his meal in shock, then looked directly into Victor's eyes without flinching.
"I'd make the same choice again," Leo said softly.
