Chapter V: The Commander's Return
General Vance walked straight past the developer and knelt down on one knee in the gravel beside the blue Ford truck.
With deep, reverent respect, the General helped Frank to his feet, saluting the veteran with formal military precision.
"Commander Miller, sir," General Vance said, his voice thick with honor. "The federal warrants have been executed. The corrupt municipal council has been placed under arrest, and your ranch is under permanent federal sovereign protection."
Briggs collapsed onto his knees in the dirt, sobbing as steel handcuffs snapped around his wrists alongside Sterling, who was stripped of his documents and escorted into the armored tactical transport in total disgrace.
Commander Frank Miller brushed the dust from his canvas vest, looking down at the handcuffed developer.
"You can buy politicians, Sterling," Frank said calmly. "But you can't buy the blood spilled for this land."
As the dust settled and the helicopters circled high above the valley, Frank climbed back into his classic blue pickup, fired up the engine, and looked out over the untamed, protected horizon of Miller Ranch.
