THE SEIZURE AT THORNFIELD BARN
Chapter I: The Pink Suit and the Eviction Notice
The sweltering summer sun beat down over the vast rolling pastures and golden wheat fields of the historic Thornfield Homestead. Inside the open, cavernous wooden barn, dust motes danced in the light beside bags of seed, vintage iron tractors, and free-roaming hens pecking at the dirt floor.
Marching aggressively through the open barn door in a vibrant magenta-pink blazer and matching trousers was Victoria Vance, the newly appointed president of the adjacent Whispering Valley HOA.
Waving a thick stack of court papers in one hand while pointing dramatically toward the open fields with the other, Victoria shrieked at the top of her lungs:
"Seize the fields now! This property belongs to the HOA!"
Standing beside her was Deputy Martinez, wearing a tan sheriff uniform and holding his body-worn radio terminal with an active call recording.
Leaning casually against the massive green steel wheel of his tractor, hands tucked in the pockets of his faded denim jeans and wearing a weathered plaid shirt and green baseball cap, was Jack Thornfield.
