Chapter IV: The Arrival of Transit Security

Before Brenda could take another step toward the administrative exit, the concourse's emergency VIP elevator doors opened.

Sprinting across the marble concourse came the Chief of Transit Police and four senior executives in dark wool coats, surrounding the corner of the concourse in seconds.

Brenda gasped, rushing forward to greet them with a fawning smile: "Executive Director Vance! Sir! I caught an insubordinate employee fraternizing with vagrants—"

The Executive Director pushed past Brenda without a word, dropping to one knee beside the man on the floor.

"Chairman Bennett!" the director gasped in shock. "Sir, you've been in the field alone for three days! Are you alright?"

Brenda’s jaw dropped. Her hands began shaking violently as the clipboard slipped from her fingers, clattering against the marble.

Arthur Bennett.

The legendary railway tycoon, real estate billionaire, and reclusive owner of the entire national transit network, who had spent the week undercover across major stations to personally choose the future trustee of his philanthropic foundation.
