The embarrassment.

The moment Henry Lin had noticed her.

She bought the building.

The restaurant manager couldn't believe it.

“You're the new owner?”

“Yes.”

“Are you planning to replace the restaurant?”

“No.”

“Then what are you going to do?”

Naomi smiled.

“Renovate it.”

She invested heavily.

The restaurant became elegant but welcoming.

She created a private dining room.

She built a small library upstairs.

And she established a training program for restaurant employees who wanted to move into business careers.

Every year, several employees received scholarships.

Some studied hospitality.

Some studied accounting.

Some studied law.

Some studied languages.

Naomi wanted them to have what she had once lacked.

A bridge between survival and opportunity.

One evening, she walked upstairs with Henry Lin.

He was older now.

His hair had turned completely white.

He looked around.

“You bought the building.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Naomi smiled.

“Because I remember what it felt like to stand downstairs.”

Henry nodded.

“Memory can be expensive.”

“It can also be useful.”

He laughed.

They walked toward the dining room.

Above table twelve was a small brass plaque.

Henry read it.

NEVER MISTAKE SOMEONE'S POSITION FOR THEIR POTENTIAL.

He looked at Naomi.

“Who wrote that?”

“I did.”

“Why?”

“Because someone once made that mistake.”

Henry smiled.

“Did he?”

“Yes.”

“Does he know?”

Naomi looked across the room.

Victor Hale was standing near the bar.

He had arrived without announcing himself.

Naomi smiled.

“He does now.”

Victor approached.

He looked around the renovated restaurant.

“This is beautiful.”

“Thank you.”

“You kept the table.”

“Yes.”

He looked at the plaque.

“I deserve that.”

Naomi smiled.

“You deserve worse.”

Victor laughed.

“Probably.”

They stood together.

Three people whose lives had crossed because of one humiliating bet.

Henry broke the silence.

“Victor, do you remember what you told Naomi that night?”

Victor nodded.

“Every word.”

“What did you tell her?”

Victor looked at Naomi.

“Get out.”

Henry smiled.

“And now?”

Victor looked around the restaurant.
