"That's a lie! That fence was approved by the architectural committee!" Sandra interrupted, her voice pitching into a panicked screech.

"The HOA cannot override county land deeds, Sandra," Officer Rivera said sternly, reviewing the certified title deed. "This entire lot, including the pool basin and water pump filtration lines, is deeded solely to Claire."

Claire tapped the laptop screen, bringing up an itemized invoice:

"Furthermore, draining this pool was mandated by the county health inspector due to Sandra pouring commercial chemical treatments into the water without proper municipal certification. The cost of unauthorized water consumption, electrical pump usage, and chemical remediation totals twenty-two thousand dollars."

Chapter IV: The Bill Comes Due

Sandra’s smug expression completely dissolved. Her face went pale as she looked between the official county survey and the two officers who were now closing their notepads.
