Julian remained seated, watching the color drain from Arthur’s face. "Manufactured, Arthur? The federal marshals are currently downloading these exact files from the Swiss servers. The subpoena was signed thirty minutes ago."

Eleanor stood up so fast her chair screeched against the marble floor. Her manicured fingers gripped the edge of the table, her knuckles turning white. She turned her venomous gaze onto Clara, her polite facade entirely shattered.

"You ruined everything, you ungrateful little rat!" Eleanor shrieked, her voice losing its polished composure, echoing off the glass walls. "You were supposed to be scrubbing floors, not bringing down an empire!"

"Enough, Eleanor," Arthur snapped, grabbing his daughter’s arm to pull her back into her seat. But the damage was done. Her public outburst confirmed every accusation laid against them before the entire board of directors.

The senior lead independent director, a frail man named Henderson who had served under Julian’s father, cleared his throat loudly. He adjusted his glasses and looked down at his voting tablet.

"In light of these disclosures," Henderson announced, his voice steady and formal, "I move that we suspend Arthur Vanguard’s board seat indefinitely, freeze all Vanguard-affiliated assets pending a federal audit, and launch a full internal investigation into Lady Eleanor’s conduct."

Seconded votes echoed around the table instantly. The motion carried unanimously with a wave of raised hands. Arthur slumped back into his leather chair, defeated, his corporate empire crumbling around him in a matter of minutes.

Julian stood up, buttoning his suit jacket. He offered Clara a reassuring nod, then looked down at Eleanor. "You wanted to make sure I was distracted, Eleanor. You thought you could break my staff, intimidate my household, and steal my company while my back was turned. You underestimated the people you chose to treat as invisible."

As the federal marshals entered the boardroom to serve warrants, Julian escorted Clara out of the hostile environment, leaving the ruins of the Vanguard conspiracy behind them.

Chapter 9: The Clearing Storm

The afternoon sun broke through the heavy Manhattan smog, casting long, golden beams across the penthouse terrace as Clara stepped outside to catch her breath. The events of the morning felt surreal—a whirlwind of flashing camera lights, shouting journalists gathered outside Sterling Tower, and the swift, merciless hand of justice dismantling the Vanguard syndicate.

The heavy glass door slid open, and Julian stepped out onto the terrace, carrying two cups of steaming chamomile tea. He handed one to Clara, leaning against the stone railing beside her.

"The federal investigators have already seized the Manhattan townhomes belonging to Arthur and Eleanor," Julian said quietly, blowing gently across the surface of his tea. "Mrs. Gable has agreed to turn state’s evidence in exchange for a reduced sentence. The board has formally reinstated my full executive authority, and a complete financial audit is underway."

Clara took a small sip of the tea, feeling the warmth spread through her chest. "And Lady Eleanor?"

"Awaiting arraignment on charges of corporate espionage, conspiracy, and witness intimidation," Julian replied without a trace of pity. "She’ll face a grand jury next week. Her lawyers are already scrambling, but the paper trail you exposed is bulletproof."

Clara looked out over the sprawling city, feeling a profound weight lift from her shoulders. For months, she had lived in fear, hiding her identity and protecting her unborn child in a world that offered no quarter to the vulnerable. Now, standing beside one of the most powerful men in the city, she realized she was no longer a victim of circumstances.

"You risked everything today, Mr. Sterling," Clara said softly, turning her dark eyes toward him. "You could have quietly settled out of court, protected your stock prices, and let me drift away into obscurity."

"I told you before, Clara. People are not disposable commodities," Julian said, turning to face her fully. His dark eyes softened, losing the hard edge of corporate combat. "From the moment I saw you standing in that ballroom, trying to protect your dignity while Eleanor humiliated you with those scissors, I knew I had to do better. Not just as a CEO, but as a man."

Clara lowered her gaze, feeling a warm flush rise to her cheeks. She placed a hand over her rounded belly, feeling a gentle kick from within—a reminder of the future they were both fighting to secure.

"What happens to me now?" Clara asked quietly. "I am still technically an employee of this estate."
