Lisa nodded frantically. “Thomas said once the loan defaulted, Hale would purchase this resort for pennies through a private auction. Tonight was supposed to be the final transfer.”

Marcus looked at the clock.Train Managers

“Tonight?”

Lisa pointed toward the city skyline outside the window.

“At midnight. Thomas said the Grand Imperial flagship would legally collapse before sunrise.”

There were less than three hours left.

Marcus called his legal team, his chief financial officer, and the federal fraud investigator who had once helped him shut down a corrupt construction contractor.

Then he turned toward Evelyn.

“Mom, I need to move you somewhere safe.”

She rose carefully despite the pain in her back.

“No.”

“Thomas may come after you again.”Luxury hotel stays

“That man already threw me into the street without touching me himself,” she said. “He used someone else’s cruelty as his weapon. I will not hide while he tries to steal what your father died protecting.”

Marcus studied her face.

For the first time that night, he was not looking at a fragile elderly woman who needed rescue.

He was looking at the woman who had survived every loss of his childhood without letting him see her collapse.

He nodded.

“Then we finish this together.”

The Trap Inside the Ballroom

Marcus ordered the Grand Imperial ballroom prepared for an emergency board meeting. Word spread through the company that the chairman had discovered an accounting irregularity and demanded every executive appear by video or in person before midnight.

The ballroom filled quickly.Resort vacation packages

Senior managers sat around a long glass table beneath rows of crystal lights. Lawyers connected encrypted laptops. Security officers sealed every exit. Lisa waited in a side room under guard, prepared to testify.

Evelyn sat beside Marcus at the head of the table. Her cream dress was still damp near the hem. The bruising in her lower back had worsened, but she refused medical transport until the meeting ended.

At 11:37 p.m., the main doors opened.

A tall silver-haired man entered with three attorneys beside him.

Victor Hale.

He smiled as though he had been invited to a celebration.

“Marcus,” he said, “I heard your mother had an eventful birthday.”

Marcus did not rise.

“Sit down, Victor.”

Hale glanced at Evelyn and gave her a dismissive smile.Prevent Fraud

“I must say, Mrs. Carter, ownership is a complicated burden for someone enjoying retirement.”

Evelyn met his eyes calmly.

“So is prison, I imagine.”

Several executives shifted uncomfortably.

Hale’s smile weakened.

Marcus pressed a button on the table. The large ballroom screen lit up with financial documents, bank transfers, and recorded calls.

“Tonight,” Marcus said, “someone attempted to trigger a fraudulent default on this resort using an unauthorized loan. The funds passed through four shell companies before reaching a hospitality acquisition firm controlled by Victor Hale.”
