“Director Thomas Reed signed the loan. He also ordered my mother’s ownership documents destroyed before they could trigger legal review.”
Hale spread his hands. “And where is this frightened director now? Running through the rain with a story designed to save himself?”
A voice came from the ballroom entrance.
“Actually, I am right here.”
Thomas stepped into the room between two federal agents.
His expensive jacket was gone. His tie hung loose. His eyes were swollen with fear.
Marcus stared at him.
Thomas avoided his gaze and pointed directly at Hale.

Hale turned sharply toward his lawyers.
Marcus leaned forward.
“You did not come here tonight to observe my company’s collapse,” he said. “You came because you believed you were about to own this resort.”
Hale smiled coldly. “Even if Thomas talks, his testimony will be destroyed in court. He is a criminal trying to trade lies for mercy.”
Marcus nodded.
“That is why I did not rely on Thomas.”

Lisa walked to the center of the room, placed her flash drive on the table, and looked directly at Evelyn before speaking.
“I treated Mrs. Carter in a way no human being deserves. I cannot undo it. But I recorded Director Thomas discussing the loan, the false foreclosure, and Victor Hale’s instructions to destroy any ownership documents presented tonight.”
Marcus inserted the drive into his laptop.
A recorded voice filled the ballroom.
Thomas: “The elderly woman cannot be allowed into the system.”
Hale: “Then humiliate her. People like her disappear when they are embarrassed enough. Tear up whatever she carries and have security remove her.”
The room went completely silent.
