The doors opened simultaneously.

A team of people in sharp corporate attire stepped out into the biting wind.

Leading the pack was Eleanor Vance-Ross.

She wore a devastatingly sharp navy blue trench coat, her expression unreadable and terrifying.

Right beside her, looking slightly panicked and confused, was Richard Davies.

Richard was the Regional Vice President who had aggressively championed Vanessa Sterling for the permanent General Manager position.

As the group pushed through the revolving doors, the entire atmosphere in the lobby dropped ten degrees.

Vanessa turned around, annoyance flashing across her face at the new interruption.

But when she recognized Eleanor and Richard, all the blood drained from her face, only to be instantly replaced by a frantic, artificial brightness.

She had no idea they were coming.

She believed they were here for her final, unannounced evaluation for the permanent GM role.

Vanessa completely abandoned the police officers, spinning around and striding toward the corporate executives with a blinding, desperate smile.

"Ms. Vance-Ross! Richard!" Vanessa gasped, smoothing down her blazer. "What an unexpected honor. We weren't expecting corporate today. I would have prepared a proper reception."

Eleanor didn't smile back.

Her cold, analytical eyes swept the lobby.

She saw the police officers. She saw Ethan looking terrified behind the desk. She saw Marcus standing near the wall.

And then, her eyes locked onto me.

I gave her a microscopic nod.

It was a silent command: Play along. Let her dig.

Eleanor understood instantly.

She looked at Vanessa, her expression turning into a mask of mild corporate curiosity.

"We decided to do an impromptu walkthrough, Vanessa," Eleanor said, her voice smooth and chilling. "But it seems we've arrived during a situation. What is going on here?"

Vanessa let out a breathless, condescending laugh, gesturing backward toward me.

"Oh, it's nothing to worry about, Eleanor. Just a minor security breach. A vagrant wandered in off the street. He’s been quite hostile, but I’ve already taken decisive action. I called the police to have him removed."

Richard Davies, the Regional VP, looked incredibly nervous.

He wanted his candidate to look good.

"Excellent initiative, Vanessa," Richard offered weakly, trying to frame the situation positively. "Keeping the environment secure is exactly what we need at the flagship."

Vanessa practically beamed, energized by Richard's validation.

She wanted to show off. She wanted to prove to the Chief Operating Officer how ruthlessly she managed the brand.

"Absolutely, Richard," Vanessa said loudly, ensuring Eleanor heard every word. "Since taking over, I've instituted a zero-tolerance policy. The old management was far too soft, letting anyone walk through our doors. It was destroying our prestige."

"Really?" Eleanor asked softly, stepping slightly closer. "And what about the Vance Foundation's Community Access initiative? The mandated charity budgets?"

Vanessa waved her hand dismissively, an arrogant smirk playing on her lips.

"Oh, I cut all of that waste," she bragged. "It was entirely incompatible with my new Elite Tier strategy. Those funds are much better utilized securing high-value VIP experiences. It’s exactly why my quarterly margins look so phenomenal."

I watched Richard swallow hard.

He knew those funds were legally protected.

He had likely ignored the red flags in Vanessa's reports because the overall revenue numbers made his region look profitable.

Eleanor remained terrifyingly calm.

"You cut the charity initiatives," Eleanor repeated. "And reallocated the funds internally?"

"Exactly," Vanessa nodded proudly. "I believe in protecting the bottom line."

I had heard enough.

The trap was fully sprung, and she had just walked directly into it, confessing to financial fraud in front of the COO.

Officer Jenkins, clearly confused by the corporate drama, stepped toward me with a pair of silver handcuffs.

"Alright, that's enough," Jenkins sighed. "Turn around, buddy. Put your hands behind your back. I need to see some ID."

"Certainly, Officer," I said politely.

I didn't turn around.
