Dante watched his father.

He had never seen Salvatore admit weakness.

Not once.

Nora stood.

“I need to go.”

Dante moved toward her.

“Let me arrange a car.”

“It's raining.”

“I have an umbrella.”

He stopped.

She looked at Salvatore.

“If you're really my grandfather's brother, you should know something.”

The old man lifted his head.

“He was a good man.”

“He deserved better.”

The old man's eyes filled.

Nora walked toward the kitchen.

But before she reached the doors, Dante called her name.

“Nora.”

She turned.

“Someone sent a message about you tonight.”

Her stomach tightened.

Dante held up his phone.

“We intercepted it from one of the staff.”

Nora stared.

“Who?”

Dante's expression hardened.

“Your manager.”

"The first thing Tessa Wren noticed was that Gideon Rourke did not laugh...

Paul.

And the message had gone to a number associated with a man who had tried to kill Salvatore Gallo seventeen years earlier.

Paul disappeared before the police arrived.

His locker was empty.

His phone had been abandoned in the employee restroom.

And the security footage showed him leaving through the rear service entrance three minutes after Salvatore recognized Nora.

Dante watched the recording twice.

Then turned to his security chief, Marco Bellini.

“Find him.”

Marco nodded.

Nora stood near the office door.

“I want to know what's happening.”

Dante looked at her.

“You should go home.”

She folded her arms.

“Nora—”

“You don't get to decide that.”

Dante studied her.

Then nodded.

“Fair.”

He explained.

Paul had been sending information about the restaurant's private guests to an outside contact.

Most of the messages involved schedules.

Arrivals.

Security arrangements.

But the latest message concerned Nora.

“Why would anyone care about me?” she asked.

“That's what we need to find out.”

Salvatore remained silent.

Nora noticed.

“You know something.”

The old man looked at her.

“Your grandfather had something.”

“A ledger.”

Nora frowned.

“What kind of ledger?”

“Records from Sicily.”

“Papa.”

Salvatore continued.

“Pietro kept copies of financial transactions. Names. Dates. Payments.”
