The old man looked up, his faded blue eyes widening with genuine astonishment. "Son... that's your own hard-earned money. You can't just give it away to a stranger."

"You shouldn't leave hungry, sir," Leo replied simply, beginning to gather the paper napkin. "Everyone deserves a hot meal."

"What is going on here?!" a sharp, authoritative voice boomed from the center aisle.

Marching over with heavy, aggressive steps was Raymond, the diner’s general manager. Dressed in a stiff short-sleeved dress shirt and a navy tie that strained over his broad belly, Raymond viewed the diner strictly as an engine for profit, with zero tolerance for deviation from corporate policy.

"You paid his bill?" Raymond snapped, glaring down at Leo before casting a venomous scowl at the old man's worn attire. "Leo, how many times have I told you? This is a business, not a homeless shelter! We don't enable freeloaders who walk in off the street expecting charity! You are in violation of company conduct. Take that apron off—you’re fired."

Leo stood tall, his jaw set, refusing to cower. "He was hungry, Mr. Raymond. The bill is paid in full. No money was lost by the restaurant."

"You don't talk back to management!" Raymond hissed, his face reddening. "Get out before I call the police for loitering!"

The old man, who had remained quiet through the exchange, slowly straightened his back. The tired, defeated stoop in his posture dissolved, replaced by a calm, unmistakable poise.
