Chloe let out a short, sharp sigh, crossing her arms over her chest. The facade of the polite saleswoman was cracking, revealing the deeply ingrained arrogance beneath. She leaned in slightly, her voice dropping to a harsh whisper so the sound wouldn't carry, though the venom in it was unmistakable.

"Sir, you are wasting my time," she snapped. Her eyes raked over his stained jacket. "People dressed like you don't buy watches like that. You can't even afford the tax on a watch like that."

Elias stood perfectly still. The silence in the store seemed to amplify. He looked at her name tag. Chloe.

"I'm here to buy it," Elias said, his voice dropping an octave, losing its gentle tone. There was a sudden, immovable weight behind his words. The carpenter was gone; the titan of industry was waking up.

Chloe scoffed, rolling her eyes openly. "Then go somewhere else," she said, her voice rising now, losing its professional restraint. She pointed a manicured finger toward the exit. "You're making my customers uncomfortable. You're tracking dirt onto the marble. Please leave before I have security remove you."

She wasn't just dismissing him; she was humiliating him. She was asserting her perceived superiority over an old, tired-looking man.

Elias looked around the store. There were no other customers. The only other people were Marcus, the security guard, who looked deeply uncomfortable, and a junior associate who was hiding behind a pillar, watching the exchange with wide eyes.

"Uncomfortable?" Elias asked softly. "Or are you uncomfortable, Chloe?"

"Security!" Chloe called out sharply. "Marcus, escort this man out."

Chapter 4: The Revelation

Before Marcus could take more than two steps, a heavy oak door at the back of the showroom opened. Out stepped Julian Carter (no relation, a coincidence they always joked about). Julian was the store manager, a man in his late thirties who wore a bespoke navy suit that fit like a second skin. He was fastidious, brilliant, and fiercely loyal to the man who had pulled him out of a mid-level management slump and put him in charge of his flagship store.

Julian held a clipboard, his eyes scanning a spreadsheet. As he stepped onto the showroom floor, he heard Chloe's raised voice. He looked up, his brow furrowing in irritation.

"Chloe, what is going on out—"

Julian stopped dead in his tracks. The clipboard slipped slightly in his grasp. He looked at the old man in the dirty canvas jacket. He looked at the drywall dust on the boots.

Julian’s face immediately broke into a warm, genuine smile of relief and deep respect. He practically jogged across the marble floor, completely ignoring Chloe, and extended both of his hands toward the old man.
