CHAPTER 1 — THE QUIET WOMAN
Six hundred people filled the arena that evening, expecting to watch a champion defend his reputation.
Marcus Vale had built his career on confidence. He was undefeated in exhibition matches, famous for humiliating opponents before the first bell, and even more famous for turning a crowd against anyone who looked nervous.
Then he noticed the woman sitting alone near the front.
She was dressed simply, with a dark jacket, worn sneakers, and a small notebook resting on her knees. She had not cheered. She had not taken pictures. She simply watched.
Marcus pointed toward her.
“Ma’am, did you come here to fight or to take notes?”
The crowd laughed.
The woman looked up.
“My name is Elena Brooks.”
Marcus smiled. “That wasn't my question.”
Elena closed her notebook.
“I know.”
The laughter grew louder.
Marcus stepped closer to the edge of the mat.
“You look like you don't belong here.”
Elena didn't answer.
“Maybe somebody should explain that this is a championship exhibition, not a community meeting.”
More laughter.
The announcer tried to move things along.
Marcus wasn't finished.
“You know what? Come up here. Six seconds. That's all you get.”
The arena erupted.
Elena stood.
She removed her jacket.
The laughter slowly disappeared.
There was something different about the way she moved.
Not nervous. Not hesitant. Measured.
Marcus noticed it too.
For the first time that night, his smile faded.
CHAPTER 2 — SIX SECONDS
Elena stepped onto the mat.
The crowd expected a joke.
Marcus expected an easy demonstration.
The referee gave them room.
Marcus raised his gloves.
“You can still walk away.”
Elena looked at him.
“I didn't come here to walk away.”
The bell sounded.
Marcus moved first.
He stepped forward with a quick right hand.
