She hesitated.

“I thought…”

“What?”

“I thought nobody would stop.”

Marcus looked around the gas station.

A dozen people were watching.

Some were pretending not to.

Some were obviously curious.

But nobody had stepped forward.

Marcus looked back at Claire.

“Well.”

He gave a small nod.

“Someone did.”

Claire's eyes filled with emotion.

She quickly looked away.

The large man behind her stepped forward again.

“You need to leave.”

Marcus turned toward him.

“No.”

The man stared.

Marcus remained completely calm.

“No?”

“No.”

“You don't know who I am.”

Marcus nodded.

“Neither do you.”

The man frowned.

Marcus continued.

“You think because I look like trouble, I'm going to start one.”

He pointed toward the woman.

“But she's the one asking for help.”

The man didn't answer.

Marcus looked toward the gas station entrance.

“I want someone to call the police.”

A few people exchanged nervous glances.

Nobody moved.

Marcus repeated himself.

“Call the police.”

A young employee behind the counter finally reached for the phone.

The large man immediately shouted,

“Don't!”

The employee froze.

Marcus looked at him.

“Call.”

The employee nodded.

He picked up the phone.

The man became furious.

“This is none of your business!”

Marcus looked at him.

“You made it my business when she asked me not to leave.”

The man stepped forward.

Marcus didn't move.

He simply stood there.

The difference between them was striking.

One man was shouting.

The other remained silent.

One was trying to intimidate everyone.

The other was simply standing beside someone who was afraid.

Claire slowly moved closer to Marcus.

She still had the chain around her wrists.

Marcus noticed her hands trembling.

He spoke quietly.

“Stay behind me.”

Claire nodded.

The man noticed.

“Don't hide behind him.”

Claire didn't respond.

Marcus looked at her.

“Don't listen to him.”

Then he looked back at the man.

“Let her speak for herself.”

The man's expression changed.

For the first time, he seemed uncertain.

Because the situation was no longer under his control.

People were watching.

The employee had called the authorities.

And Marcus wasn't leaving.

Claire looked around.

Then she finally spoke louder.

“My name is Claire Bennett.”

Marcus listened.

“I've been looking for someone to help me.”

The man immediately interrupted.

“She's lying!”

Marcus raised one hand.

“Let her finish.”

Claire continued.

“I was brought here against my will.”

Several people gasped.

The man shook his head.

“That's not true.”

Claire looked at Marcus.

“I tried to leave.”

The man stepped forward.

Marcus immediately moved between them.

“Stay back.”

The man's eyes narrowed.

“You think you're a hero?”

Marcus shook his head.

“No.”

He looked at Claire.

“I'm just a man who heard someone ask for help.”

The words were simple.

But they changed the mood completely.

The people watching began to understand that this was not an ordinary argument.

This woman was genuinely frightened.

And the biker was the only person who had actually stopped to ask what was happening.

A few minutes later, police lights appeared in the distance.

Claire saw them.

Her shoulders dropped slightly.

Marcus noticed.

“It's okay.”

She looked at him.

“Are you sure?”

Marcus nodded.

“We'll tell them exactly what happened.”

The first police vehicle entered the gas station.

Two officers stepped out.

They immediately saw the crowd.

One officer approached Marcus.

“What happened?”

Marcus stepped aside.

“I stopped because she asked for help.”

He pointed toward Claire.

“She has a chain around her wrists.”

The officer looked at Claire.

“Ma'am, are you injured?”

Claire shook her head.

“No.”

“Are you in danger?”

Claire looked toward the man who had been standing behind her.

Then she looked back at the officer.

“Yes.”

The officer's expression became serious.

“Okay.”

He turned toward the other officer.

“Separate everyone.”

The large man immediately began protesting.

“You don't understand!”

The officer raised his hand.

“Sir, step back.”

The man continued arguing.

Marcus remained silent.

He didn't interfere.

He didn't threaten anyone.

He simply stayed near Claire.

The second officer approached her.

“Can you tell me what happened?”
