He extended his hand.

"Joseph Callan."

Caleb shook it.

"Caleb."

Joseph nodded.

"I know."

Caleb glanced at the forty-six men behind him.

"Why are you here?"

Joseph looked around the street.

Then back at Caleb.

"Because you saved my life."

Caleb shook his head.

"I just gave you sugar."

"No."

Joseph's voice became serious.

"You stayed when everybody else walked away."

Caleb didn't know what to say.

Joseph looked toward the house.

"Your mother home?"

Caleb frowned.

"Why?"

"Because I want to meet her."

Sarah Mitchell opened the door.

She saw her son standing beside nearly fifty bikers.

Her face went white.

"Caleb?"

"It's okay, Mom."

She looked at Joseph.

Joseph removed his sunglasses.

"Mrs. Mitchell."

Sarah stepped onto the porch.

"What happened?"

Joseph smiled.

"Your son saved my life."

Sarah looked at Caleb.

"Again?"

Caleb frowned.

"What?"

Sarah sighed.

"He always does this."

Joseph laughed.

"What?"

"He thinks he's responsible for everybody."

Caleb looked embarrassed.

"Mom."

Joseph's expression changed.

He studied Sarah carefully.

"You raised a good kid."

Sarah folded her arms.

"I tried."

Joseph reached into his vest.

He pulled out an envelope.

Caleb immediately shook his head.

"No."

Joseph held it out.

"Take it."

"I can't."

"Why?"

"Because I didn't help you for money."

"I know."

"Then don't give me any."

Joseph nodded slowly.

"Fine."

He put the envelope away.

Then he looked at Sarah.

"But I'm still going to help."

Sarah frowned.

"We don't need charity."

Joseph smiled.

"Good."

He pointed toward Caleb.

"Because I'm not offering charity."

He looked at the old bicycle.

"I'm offering him a job."

Caleb blinked.

"What kind of job?"

"At my garage."

Sarah immediately said:
