Chapter V: The Final Reckoning

Officer Vance and Officer Rodriguez looked at the state warrant and immediately stepped around Victoria, taking her arms.

"Mrs. Sterling, you are under arrest for grand real estate fraud, filing false instruments, and abuse of HOA authority under color of law," Officer Vance announced.

The silver clipboard slipped from Victoria’s trembling fingers, clattering loudly against the poolside concrete as steel handcuffs snapped around her wrists.

"You can't do this to me! I run this neighborhood!" Victoria shrieked in total humiliation as she was marched out the gate in front of gathering neighbors who had come outside to cheer.

Commissioner Davies walked over to Maya, handing back her purple binder with a warm, respectful nod.

"Everything is in perfect order, Ms. Sterling. Your home and pool are permanently protected under state law."

Maya smiled, closing the binder and looking out over the quiet, sparkling water—knowing that the long reign of intimidation was finally over, and true peace had returned to Palm Ridge.
