"Recorded on the bridge’s structural telemetry and high-definition DOT monitoring feed," Mark confirmed, pointing up to the wide-angle camera mounted beside the spinning red beacon.

The trooper turned to Tessa, pulling out a pair of steel handcuffs.

"Mrs. Tessa Higgins, under state general statutes regarding infrastructure protection, deliberately directing an overweight commercial vehicle onto a posted weight-restricted historic bridge is a Class F state felony. Furthermore, you are being charged with reckless endangerment and attempted destruction of public infrastructure."

Tessa’s face drained of all color, her jaw dropping as the cold metal ratcheted around her manicured wrists.

"Wait! I’m the HOA president! Our insurance will cover it!" Tessa shrieked as she was escorted toward the cruiser.

"State infrastructure felonies carry personal liability and mandatory jail time, ma'am," the trooper said with cold finality. "Your HOA dues won't help you in state court."

As the yellow paving truck was impounded and towed away, Mark tapped his clipboard, looking up at the untouched, peaceful wooden arches of the Carver Mill Bridge, safely preserved for another generation.
