"They need someone who teaches them how to become better."

Leo lowered his eyes.

Elias continued.

"Fear may make people obey. It does not make them strong."

The words reached the entire room.

One of the older students finally spoke.

"He's right."

Marcus looked at him.

The student swallowed but did not retreat.

"I've been afraid to spar with you for months."

Another student nodded.

"So have I."

Then another.

Marcus looked around.

For the first time, he realized that his authority had never been respect.

It had been fear.

And fear was disappearing.

Chapter 9 — Master Tanaka Returns

The next morning, Master Tanaka returned from his seminar.

Sarah told him what had happened.

He listened without interruption.

When he arrived at the dojo that evening, Marcus expected punishment for losing.

Instead, Tanaka asked one question.

"Why did you think hurting Leo made him stronger?"

Marcus had no answer.

Tanaka looked at the students.

"Did this happen before?"

Silence.

Then Leo spoke.

"Yes."

One by one, the stories emerged.

Students described excessive pressure, humiliating comments, and rounds that continued after they were clearly exhausted.

Tanaka closed his eyes.
