Chloe scoffed.
"Who does she think she is?"
Madison pointed toward Emma.
"You're new here. You don't walk into this school and act like you're better than everyone."
Emma's eyes remained steady.
"I never said I was better than anyone."
"You didn't have to."
Madison stepped forward.
Chloe moved with her.
"Get her!"
A few students gasped.
Chloe lunged first.
Emma reacted instantly.
She stepped aside, caught Chloe's momentum, and used a controlled judo movement to redirect her safely over the edge of a nearby table.
Chloe landed on the padded bench with a startled cry.
The cafeteria erupted.
Madison froze.
"What—"
She swung toward Emma.
Emma raised her arm and blocked the incoming movement.
Then she guided Madison downward, using her momentum rather than striking her.
Madison stumbled and landed on the floor.
Nobody was seriously hurt.
But Madison was furious.
She sat there, staring upward.
"Stop!"
Her voice suddenly became high-pitched and frightened.
"She attacked us!"
The words changed the atmosphere.
Several students looked uncertain.
Emma slowly lowered her hands.
She didn't say anything.
Madison pointed dramatically at her.
"She just attacked me!"
Chloe scrambled upright.
"Yeah! She attacked us for no reason!"
Emma looked at both of them.
Then at the dozens of phones.
Then at the security camera mounted above the cafeteria doors.
She almost smiled.
Almost.
A voice came from the crowd.
"There's a camera."
Madison's expression changed.
"What?"
The cafeteria doors opened.
Mr. Harris, the school's security officer, walked in.
He had been called by a teacher after hearing the commotion.
"What happened?"
Madison immediately jumped to her feet.
"That girl attacked us!"
Emma remained silent.
Mr. Harris looked at her.
"Is that true?"
Emma wiped another piece of spaghetti from her sleeve.
"No."
Madison pointed.
"She's lying!"
Mr. Harris didn't argue.
He simply looked toward the monitor mounted on the wall.
"Let's see what happened."
The screen flickered.
Students crowded closer.
The footage showed the cafeteria from above.
There was Emma sitting quietly.
There was Madison approaching.
There was the tray.
Then—
The entire attack played out.
The tray hit Emma.
Madison stood over her.
And only afterward did Chloe and Madison move toward Emma.
Nobody spoke.
Madison's face drained of color.
Chloe stared at the screen.
Mr. Harris folded his arms.
"Would either of you like to explain that?"
No answer.
Emma slowly pulled her jacket back on.
A student near the front whispered:
"It recorded everything."
Emma looked at Madison.
Her voice was quiet enough that everyone had to listen.
"Still want everyone watching?"
Madison said nothing.
For the first time that year, she had no answer.
But the cafeteria incident was only the beginning.
Because the video was already spreading.
And by the end of the school day, everyone at Westbridge knew exactly what had happened.
Everyone except the one person who mattered most.
Emma Carter.
Because Emma hadn't come to Westbridge to become popular.
She had come there for a reason.
And Madison had just accidentally dragged that reason into the spotlight.

Chapter 3 — The Girl Nobody Knew
By four o'clock, the cafeteria video had been viewed thousands of times.
Students had posted it from different angles.
Some added captions.
Some mocked Madison.
Others praised Emma.
One version had the title:
"Pink-Haired Queen Picks the WRONG Girl."
Another read:
"She Tried to Humiliate Her… Then the Camera Exposed Everything."
By dinner, the video had escaped the school entirely.
Emma sat alone in her bedroom that night.
Her leather jacket hung over a chair.
She stared at her phone without opening any of the messages.
There were dozens.
Unknown numbers.
Friend requests.
Messages from students she'd never spoken to.
