No gate.
Just open space.
Evelyn stopped.
“What is it?””
Marcus asked.
She stared at the names engraved into the stone.
“Michael brought me here once.””
“When?””
“Two weeks before he disappeared.””
The men became alert.
“What happened?””
She touched the stone pillar.
“He asked me something strange.””
“What?””
She looked at them.
“He asked if I trusted my husband.””
Cole frowned.
“Your husband?””
“Yes.””
“Why would he ask that?””
Evelyn looked toward the family graves.
“Because Michael believed Thomas had been lied to.””
The rain fell harder.
Daniel looked around.
“So where did he hide the evidence?””
Evelyn opened the photograph again.
The note on the back pointed to one place.
*Harrington family cemetery.*
But not a specific grave.
Marcus looked around.
“Maybe the location was incomplete.””
“No.””
Evelyn shook her head.
“Michael was careful.””
She walked deeper into the family section.
Her eyes scanned the names.
William Harrington.
Richard Harrington.
Thomas Harrington.
Then she stopped.
Everyone noticed.
Cole stepped closer.
“What is it?””
Evelyn stared at a small grave hidden behind a large monument.
The stone was darker than the others.
Older.
The name was barely visible.
*ELIZABETH HARRINGTON*
Daniel looked confused.
“Who is that?””
Evelyn didn’t answer.
She touched the name.
“She was Richard’s mother.””
Marcus looked at the grave.
“Why would Michael hide something here?””
Evelyn’s voice was quiet.
“Because this is where the lie began.””
Before anyone could ask what she meant, headlights appeared beyond the cemetery entrance.
A vehicle stopped.
Everyone turned.
A black sedan.
Marcus’s expression changed.
“We’re not alone.””
The driver’s door opened.
A woman stepped out.
She wore a long dark coat, her hair soaked from the rain.
She looked terrified.
Not angry.
Not threatening.
Terrified.
Evelyn froze.
The woman stared at her.
Then whispered:
“Mrs. Harrington?””
Evelyn’s breathing stopped.
She knew that voice.
“Sarah?””
The woman walked forward.
The missing woman.
The woman everyone believed was gone for nearly twenty years.
Sarah Harrington stood in front of them.
Older.
Tired.
But alive.
Cole looked at the others.
Nobody moved.
Nobody spoke.
Then Sarah looked at Evelyn.
“You found the letter.””
Evelyn’s eyes filled with tears.
“You’re alive.””
Sarah looked down.
“I wish I could say that was the good news.””
The words made everyone uneasy.
Marcus stepped forward.
“Who are you?””
Sarah looked at him.
“My name is Sarah Harrington.””
Daniel shook his head.
“That’s impossible.””
Sarah gave a painful smile.
“So was Michael disappearing.””
Nobody had an answer.
Evelyn moved closer.
“Where have you been?””
Sarah looked at the grave.
Not at Evelyn.
At Elizabeth Harrington’s name.
“Hiding.””
“From who?””
Sarah looked directly at her.
“From my father.””
The rain seemed louder.
Richard.
Cole immediately looked toward the road.
“Does he know you’re here?””
Sarah’s silence answered.
Marcus’s face hardened.
“We need to leave.””
“No.””
Sarah shook her head.
“Not yet.””
She walked to the grave.
“He wanted the truth buried here.””
She knelt beside Elizabeth’s stone.
Then she ran her fingers along the bottom edge.
“There.””
Everyone moved closer.
Sarah pressed against a small crack in the stone.
A hidden compartment opened.
Inside was a metal box.
Old.
Rusty.
Untouched.
Evelyn covered her mouth.
“Michael found it.””
Sarah nodded.
“Yes.””
Cole looked at her.
“You knew?””
Sarah’s eyes lowered.
“I helped him.””
The answer shocked them.
“Then why didn’t you tell anyone?””
Sarah looked at the ground.
“Because the night Michael disappeared…”
She stopped.
A tear mixed with the rain on her face.
“He told me if anything happened to him, I had to stay quiet.””
Evelyn stepped closer.
“Why?””
Sarah looked at her.
“Because he found out my father wasn’t just hiding money.””
Marcus stared at the box.
“What was he hiding?””
Sarah slowly opened it.
Inside were old documents.
Photographs.
And one small object wrapped in cloth.
She picked it up carefully.
A wedding ring.
Evelyn recognized it immediately.
Her face went pale.
“That’s…”
Sarah nodded.
“It belonged to Michael.””
The world seemed to stop.
Evelyn reached for it but couldn’t touch it.
“Where did you get that?””
Sarah looked at the ring.
“Because I was with him the night he disappeared.””
Cole’s eyes widened.
“You saw what happened?””
Sarah nodded.
“Yes.””
“Then tell us.””
Sarah looked at Evelyn.
