"Turn that noisy machine off!" Victoria demanded, her shrill voice slicing through the countryside air.
Arthur calmly reached down and killed the engine of the tiller, leaning his weathered frame against the handlebars. "Morning, Tom," Arthur said with a polite nod toward the officer. "Can I help you folks with something?"
"You can help by packing your equipment and trespassing off this property immediately," Victoria snapped, stepping directly into the plowed dirt and pointing an accusatory finger at the old farmer. "This entire field belongs to the Whispering Pines HOA. Phase Four of our community expansion begins construction on Monday. You are in direct violation of municipal zoning and private community boundaries. Deputy, remove him now!"
Arthur looked at the woman with a calm, bemused smile, running a hand through his silver beard. "Funny thing, ma'am. My family owns this entire valley. Always has. Your little subdivision stops three hundred yards back at the old creek line."
