When the memory card was plugged into the federal system, the syndicate’s criminal empire collapsed like a house of cards. A heavy tactical unit was dispatched immediately to raid the hostage site.
A few tense hours later, sirens echoed through the headquarters courtyard. The heavy glass doors slid open, and two familiar figures—injured but very much alive—were escorted into the lobby under police protection.
"Leo! Lily!" their mother’s voice shattered the silence.
Lily dropped her toy, and Leo forgot all his exhaustion as both children sprinted across the polished floor. Their parents dropped to their knees, gathering both children into a fierce, tearful embrace. All four wept hysterically, tears of agony transforming into tears of pure joy.
Their father cupped Leo’s bruised, scarred, bare feet, his heart breaking in sorrow. "I am so sorry... I am so sorry I let you go through this..."
"I protected Lily, Dad... and I brought us all back together," Leo smiled through his tears, holding tightly onto his mother and sister.
Warm morning sunlight poured through the high glass windows, washing away the cold misery of their days on the pavement. The barefoot prints on the city streets had finally guided them home.
