"Right. Stay close."

Without a second of hesitation, the giant biker stood up. His towering six-foot-four frame immediately shifted the energy of the entire diner. He began leading Chloe down the checkered aisle toward the secluded back booth. Behind him, Zane—a ruthless-looking man with a braided beard—and three other muscle-bound, tattooed bikers smoothly slid off their barstools, their heavy hands casually resting near their leather belts.

Marcus looked ahead protectively, his posture rigid and unyielding as he declared to his crew in a low bark: "Nobody touches her."

Zane stepped into tactical formation directly behind him, a cold, predatory grin spreading across his scarred face. "We know, Boss."

THE LOCKET OF SHADOWS

The heavy glass doors of the diner were violently kicked open, letting in a furious gust of freezing wind and horizontal rain. Three men clad in tailored dark suits stepped inside. They were led by Silas—a pale, sharp-featured man with cold, reptile-like eyes and a cruel smirk playing on his thin lips. Silas wiped the rainwater from his high forehead and scanned the diner, his malicious gaze landing instantly on Chloe, who was shrinking behind Marcus’s impenetrable, wall-like torso.

"Well, well," Silas sneered, his voice smooth as oil, taking a deliberate step forward. "There you are, Chloe. You’ve caused us a tremendous amount of trouble tonight. Step away from the grease-monkeys and come home. We have urgent, unfinished business regarding your late mother's estate."

Marcus didn't move an inch. He crossed his massive, ink-covered arms—a solid barrier of muscle, steel, and leather completely blocking Silas’s view of the girl. The four Iron Wolves fanned out around them, forming a tight human fortress around Chloe.

"The lady isn't going anywhere with you," Marcus rumbled, his deep voice dripping with lethal menace. "I suggest you turn your skinny asses around and walk out before things get messy."

Silas chuckled—a dry, hollow, mocking sound—and began reaching his hand inside his tailored jacket. But before he could draw whatever weapon he was concealing, Chloe reached out in sheer panic, grabbing onto the lapel of Marcus's heavy leather vest to keep her balance.

As her trembling hands clutched his leather vest, a hidden silver locket slipped out from beneath her wet shirt collar, dangling beneath the warm overhead diner lights. It was a remarkably unique, hand-crafted silver piece shaped into a snarling, roaring wolf, adorned with a tiny, gleaming emerald chip for an eye.
