THE BATTLE OF OAK CREEK

Tears of profound betrayal silently streamed down Chloe’s face as she backed away from the door. Every instinct screamed at her to run, but she knew the compound was heavily guarded. If she made a single mistake, Marcus’s men would catch her and put an end to her before sunrise.

Slinking back into her bedroom, her hands shaking violently, she pulled out her small, hidden burner phone—the one Silas didn't know about, the one she had used to call the police days ago before ending up at the diner. But she didn't call the police. The local authorities in this county were dirty, bought and paid for by the Iron Wolves.

Instead, she dialed a number she had memorized from a folded piece of paper hidden inside her mother's bible. It was the private number of Colonel James Mercer, a retired military investigator and Clara's true, secret protector from decades ago.

When the line connected, Chloe whispered into the receiver with a terrifying, icy composure born of absolute survival instinct:

"Colonel Mercer... My name is Chloe. Clara's daughter. Marcus didn't save me. He killed my mother. And he's going to kill me tomorrow morning."

Four hours later, just as the first gray light of dawn broke over the fog-drenched pines, the compound was shattered by the deafening sound of breaching charges. The heavy wooden gates of the Iron Wolves' stronghold blew inward with a violent explosion, filling the courtyard with smoke and fire.

Before the bikers could grab their weapons, a heavily armed tactical team led by Federal Marshals and accompanied by Colonel Mercer poured into the compound like a tidal wave. Gunfire erupted in the courtyard as Zane and several bikers attempted to fight back, only to be systematically neutralized and brought to their knees by professional tactical fire.

Inside the main lodge, Marcus lunged toward Chloe’s room, his face twisted in a mask of pure rage. He kicked her bedroom door open, a heavy .45 pistol gripped in his fist. "You little bitch!" he screamed, realizing he had been outmaneuvered. "You set me up!"

Chloe stood by the window, her posture remarkably calm, holding the silver locket in her open palm. "You took everything from my mother," she said, her voice dripping with venomous strength. "You destroyed her life, made her live in fear, and thought you could use her memory to finish me off."

Marcus raised his gun, his eyes blazing with psychopathic fury. "I built this empire on fear, girl! You think a few federal agents are going to stop me?"
